Computer Coding/Tech Challenge

Celebrate the International "Hour of Code"

 

Date:  December 3, 2016

 

Time:  9 a.m. - 12 p.m.

 

Location:  Harter Middle School, 1601 Esker Dr., Sugar Grove, IL 60554

 

Fees:  $20 per student to cover snacks/materials.

 

Participants must be students in middle or high school.

 

The event will cover:

 

  • The power of computer coding.
  • The relevance of computer coding and technology to future career paths.
  • The ethical dilemma's impacting code creation, the World Wide Web, and technology.
  • How "Big Data" matters.
  • Learning coding through game design.
  • How critical thinking skills and collaborative team building utilizing coding, big date, and technology can enhance future student project assignments.
  • Opportunities for continued learning student club formations, and coding competitions.
 
Students will be broken into groups based upon their competency.
Novice students will be introduced to coding programs utilizing game development applications for introductory lessons.
Students with gaming experience will be introduced to JAVA.
Advance learners will be given a challenge to solve in teams during the event.
 
Students should be prepared to work interactively during the event.

COMPUTERS WILL NOT BE PROVIDED. PLEASE BRING YOUR OWN LAPTOP AND BE PREPARED TO ENGAGE!
